Black Bond Books

Independent bookstore Black Bond Books worked with me and three other students to create a social support for the in-store book shopping experience. Our final installation was 'Bond'-ing Cards, leveraging genre tropes and talking points.

Black Bond Books is an independent bookstore in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia. My student team collaborated with the Special Projects Manager to perform ethnographic research on book lovers to create a minimally-intrusive installation that would support customer conversations.

Bonding Cards

Bonding Cards leverage book tropes to get people to read, write, or start conversations over talking points. These card stations are placed around the bookstore on key shelves that correspond to the genres of the cards, and are pinned to the wall once written on. We designed and printed the cards after going through multiple size iteration sketches that we drew on paper. One of our teammates made the holding box using wood from his garage!

Handoff

To present our idea to the staff of Black Bond Books, we created a scenario video (of which I also did the visual effects!).
